About the Social Capitalist

myGreenlight: Social CapitalistThe Social Capitalist was a monthly interactive Webex interview series delivering in-depth discussion on relationship science with the best and brightest thought leaders in business and academia. It was produced by myGreenight co-founder Sara Grace, who rotated as the show’s host with Keith Ferrazzi, and other members of the Ferrazzi Greenlight staff.

The Social Capitalist is being replaced by a new series, Change Agent, with the May 30, 2013 debut show featuring Keith interviewing Christine Comaford about Smart Tribes on Google+.

Both shows use monthly event invites on KeithFerrazzi.com and distributed through our newsletter. Interviews are 30 minutes, followed by 15 minutes of open Q&A.

We had two goals for original the series: to gain a deeper understanding of social capital and social networks in the business world, while evangelizing the concept and its emergence as a major force shaping success today; and to supply utility, in the form of behavioral tools and actionable strategies, to help members of our community to create social capital and contribute to their networks and organizations.

Change Agent focuses instead on guests who are cracking the code of human behavior in order to achieve desired outcomes in the lives and business careers of their readers.

What Is a Social Capitalist?

We live in an era of social capital. Social capital refers to the information, expertise, trust, and total value that exists in the relationships you have and social networks to which you belong.

For business, the era of social capital means that it’s time to study and understand areas long left to other disciplines: emotion, intuition, behavior, trust, influence, power, reciprocity, networks, and all those things that touch on how we relate to and work with other people. This is the realm of character, emotional intelligence, soft-skills, and the pragmatic “people smarts” they don’t teach in school (at least not yet).

A social capitalist has mastered skills in one or many of these disciplines that have allowed him or her to achieve extraordinary success – not alone, but with and through others.
